"Then God’s temple in heaven was opened, and the ark of his covenant was seen within his temple; and there were flashes of lightning, rumblings, peals of thunder, an earthquake, and heavy hail.
A great portent appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars."

Luke 46-55 (NRSV)

In a lifetime full of loving obedience to God, Mary is the foremost example of what a life lived in the love looks like. She was a woman who had courage and strength as well as - perhaps in part because of - immense holiness. Her life centred on trust in God even when things did not make sense or even seem completely bizarre. She knew joy, light, sorrow and glory and having lived all that fullness of life can identify with people in almost any circumstance in which they may find themselves.

In the difficult times of our lives, it is helpful to be with people who have had similar experiences - sensing that they understand in ways that others may not. When we feel that our words are inadequate, our actions feeble, it is good to have someone who we feel will speak up for us. As an advocate, Mary brings all experience of her own life in helping to live our own: a good friend - a heavenly mother - a queen who promises that one day all people of goodwill will be gathered with her into the bliss of the Realm of the Trinity.

Pray for those who feel without friend or advocate.

     Mary, crowned Queen of Heaven
by the Son you bore in faithful love of the Father,
generous receiver of the Holy Spirit,
now immortal advocate for the People of God.
Pray for all who seek your intercession -
those who feel unable to seek it -
and those who do not know how to.
