Isaiah 50: 4-9; Ps 68; Matthew 26: 14-25

The First Reading echoes the First Reading of Palm Sunday. The one whom God has called finds that the consequence of that response is insult and torment.

In the Gospel, Jesus gathers his "household" around him. His closest friends join him for the preparations for Passover... and again in the midst of it all is the foreshadowing of intrigue and betrayal. And yet, even knowing what Judas has in mind, Jesus does not send him away but allows him to share the food on his table.

Who is the King of Glory?

Again, we are faced with the contradiction of kingship - suffering and betrayal being brought into sharp focus alongside each other.

What is Jesus teaching us about courage and leadership?
