Millennium Prayer

God said, "I have set My bow in the clouds,
and it shall be a sign of the covenant between Me and the earth...

When the bow is in the clouds
I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant
between God and every living creature of all flesh that is on the earth...

"Lord God, Creator of all,
You draw us into a Covenant of love and of trust with You.
All that we have comes from You
and in You, we live and move and have our being.

Send Your Spirit upon us,
the Builders of Your Kingdom in .....................(name of your town)

Open our eyes
to the wonders of creation
that speak of Your presence.

Open our ears
to the voice of Your Spirit in the Word.

Open our hands
so that we are generous in sharing
the great things that You have given us.

Open our minds
to all that is life-giving and true.

Open our hearts
to the greatness of Your love.

Open our souls
so that all that is You within us
flows out into a world yearning to be made new.

We ask this in the name of our Lord and Master,
Your beloved Son, Jesus Christ.
Amen.

Christmas 1999 prepared us for a new Millennium and commemorated the birth of the One
who was to establish
the New and Everlasting Covenant
between God and the earth -
our Lord, Jesus the Christ.

The Millennium Prayer was written for use in the Parish of Holy Cross/St Swithun Wells, Eastleigh, Hampshire, UK  in the years leading up to the new millennium. and was distributed at the "Covenant Masses", Pentecost 1997.
It has been used by Churches Together in Eastleigh.
It is published to the Web at the suggestion of our friend Alain Hunt who said it should be here!
You are welcome to print it off for personal use.If you intend to reproduce it for several people, please let us know.
