Through Him, with Him, in Him.

in the unity of the Holy Spirit,

all honour and glory are Yours,

              Almighty Father,

              forever and ever.

              Amen!

These words draw the Eucharistic Prayer to a close.

The bread - now consecrated to the Body of Christ - and wine - consecrated to the Blood of the New Covenant  - are raised up. As we look at what our eyes still see as bread and wine, we acknowledge our belief that this really is Jesus Christ, present among us. We cannot see Him in the usual sense - but, in faith, detect His presence.

We then proclaim the mystery that it is through Jesus - and with Jesus - and in Jesus - and through the power of the unity of the Holy Spirit that we can give due thanks and praise to our Creator.

Our “Amen” is supposed to echo the “Great Amens” of heaven!

Take Time Out

Think about Jesus.

What events in the Gospel are most appealing to you?

What words stand out for you?

As you think about these things, work out why they are so special to you.

What makes Jesus stand out in history?

In a quiet time of prayer - put Jesus’ name in place of the “Hims” - and say the prayer to yourself several times... “Through Jesus - with Jesus - in Jesus...” etc. You might find it useful to say it at odd moments of the day - it is easy enough to remember.

As the words seep down into your soul - do they make a difference to how you see this part of the Mass?

Who is Jesus directing our hearts and minds towards?
