Oyek Oyek is a non-profit making shop and refreshment centre. Here you can buy a few basic groceries, hot drinks, beer and wine (in moderation!) and hot and cold snacks. This is a meeting place for young and old alike - and, especially on Saturday nights, enlivened by people sharing songs and dances from their home country... (although every year we have been, the most popular song - after spontaneous Taizé chant - has been "Let it be..."!) The huge parking areas in front of it are for the many coaches who bring young people to Taizé. When they are set down, most people are, understandably, apprehensive of what lies ahead. However, we have also seen many warm and tearful departures at the ends of stays too as people who have shared a deep experience and formed new and very special relationships go back to their homes. The purpose of a visit in Taizé is not to stay there - nor to create a "movement" within the Churches - it is to inspire and renew those who come to minister more joyfully in their home-communities. |
